Hi, I'm Meg! The potter behind M.S. Pottery (or Pottery By Megs). I'm a small-batch hobby potter, fitting pottery time into the spaces between my regular schedule as a full-time software engineer and full-time mom. I first started pottery in high school and continued through college electives, but I came back to it years later because I wanted a creative hobby that got me away from a screen for a while. What started as a way to unplug quickly became something I looked forward to every week. I make small batches of functional pottery that are meant to be used every day. Mugs, bowls, plates, and other pieces shouldn't just sit on a shelf—they should be part of your morning coffee, weeknight dinner, and everything in between. Some of the very first mugs, bowls, and plates I made are still part of my own daily routine, and I love knowing that the pieces I create can become part of someone else's everyday life too. Everything is made and fired in my kiln. Since each piece is handmade, there will always be small variations in shape, size, and glaze. That's part of what makes handmade pottery special—no two pieces are exactly alike. Lately I've been spending a lot of time learning about glazes. Most of my work has used commercial glazes, but I'm slowly transitioning to mixing and developing my own. It's a whole new side of pottery that combines creativity, experimentation, and a little bit of chemistry. When I'm not in the pottery studio, you'll usually find me building software. I designed and built this website using .NET, Blazor, SQL Server, Entity Framework, ASP.NET Identity, and Stripe. Working with clay and writing code may seem like completely different worlds, but both give me the same satisfaction of creating something from scratch and continually learning along the way.
